...otherwise known as the Phoenix Society of Historical Swordsmanship. I am not sure why, but Babs and I let our friends JC and Jaxon convince us to go to a sword fighting class that they found on Craig's List, although super skeptical we gave it our best effort. Turns out the class  was taught in some castle in the middle of Phoenix by two very competent  and intelligent guys that actually teach kids in high schools and clubs around the area. The purpose of their Saturday morning class is to expose more kids to the art of sword fighting. Needless to say, we loved it! Not sure how often we'll be going back but I was so impressed by their knowledge of this sport.  My favorite part was looking all hardcore wielding a sword.

First Fridays

Like most cities, Phoenix has a designated time when local residents or visitors can check out museums for free. I remember years and years ago Emily and I went to the MoMa in NYC on just such an occasion.  It's called First Fridays here because it's the first friday of every month. DUh. A group of friends and I went to the art museum here in Phoenix in early September. I thought I'd share some of my favorite exhibits.

Lions, and Tigers, and Bears- Oh my!

A couple weeks ago some friends and I went to the Phoenix Zoo. I LOVE zoos  and I try to visit one in whatever city I am visiting at the time. I had never been to the one in Phoenix before so we made a "day trip" of it.  Since it get's so freaking hot here the zoo closes at 2. Well we grossly underestimated how a) hot it would get , b) how soon it would get hot and  c) how quickly we would get through the park.. Although we all left our houses at 8 am by 10:30 I was to the point of dehydration!  (not really mbut it sounds better) . I hadn't seen my BFF Dane in a couple weeks so he came and met up with us. Later we all finished the day by going to see Madagascar 3 in the dollar theater! I love theme-filled days!
