4th of July!

Sorry it has taken me so long to update! Still living the life in AZ.  I took a small break from work on the 4th of July to try and hit a beach in CA for the day. Won't lie, the weather was not awesome. Next time I'll make sure I pack my sweater. I was surprised to learn that there is this thing called "June Gloom" ( is that how you say it?)  in San Diego. Apparently  it takes a couple hours for it to warm up every day. Not sure if I love that since apparently I love to wake up to 100 degrees every day.  Special shout out to Rashizz for spending the day with me and taking me to Coronado! I am in love with that place! I definitely want to spend some more time there.

Hawaii 101

I went to Hawaii for the first time ever this past weekend! It was as amazing as everyone says and I'll probably go back a couple more times before this internship is over. Why not?!

A couple life lessons I learned in Hawaii:

  • If the locals aren't touching the sea turtles, you shouldn't be either. There's a 1,000 dollar fine apparently.
  • Fish exhibit aggressive behavior. Even when you aren't doing anything to harm them.
  • Don't stand on the coral.
  • I hate when people say Aloha in sacrament meeting.
  • Rachelle cried when she heard her favorite baseball player got traded. I've met some pretty hardcore baseball fans but I've never seen them cry. Mariners' fans are no joke.
fortune cookie I received before I left!

CHQ

So at my job anytime you turn in a work order to get anything done, or if you meet people from other buildings one of the first questions asked is always " What building do you work in?" Maybe it's the snob in  me but I always feel a sense of pride when I say I work at Corporate Headquarters.  I LOVE saying it. I love how it sounds. I love how it makes me feel. I love it all.  Anyway, as interns we were able to take tours of all of the buildings in Arizona.  I was able to control the helicopter simulation, I actually climbed into one of the rafts that airplanes carry. I was able to get up close and personal with the airplanes and with the conveyor system  that takes your baggage when you check it. Those systems are so complex! I loved being able to go into the control tower at the airport. It was nice to be able to see how the business works from top to bottom.  The airline industry is an exciting and interesting business to work in.

Project Runway

Most of you know that Saturday was the end of my first week of living and working in AZ.  Before I talk about my first week I decided I need to actually write down the story of how I ended up here before I forget it. I have already forgotten the exact dates but it was the week of finals and graduation. I got a text message and e-mail from Carrie that Thursday saying  Eric wanted my resume to hand in and it had to be done that day before 5 AZ time. I was in and out of finals all day on Thursday so I was super stressed because I needed to study but was making all these revisions and e-mailing back and forth constantly with Eric. It was getting to be crazy  and too much with all e-mails, texts, and calls,so finally I e-mailed Carrie and said," Look, I really want to do this but I just need to not worry about it for a couple hours, I have to take these  finals."  I was actually kind of disappointed about it because I figured they would think I really didn't want the opportunity or I wasn't taking it seriously enough. I knew how serious it was but I HAD to study. I didn't know what else to say.

As soon as I left my last final I sent another e-mail saying would you guys mind helping me revise these things again. I know I need to turn them in yadda yadda yadda and they were gracious enough to help me.  That was a Thursday. US Airways called me on Friday morning but I missed the call with everything going on with graduation and the festivities.  I was nervous but I couldn't get back in contact with them until Monday morning. I ended up being on the phone with HR on Monday morning, I flew out to AZ on Tuesday, and had my interview on Wednesday.  A week to the date, I was offered the position but I had to complete background check. I don't know why I was so worried because there is nothing that I have to worry about in my background but they made it sound so official.  I felt like they were going to go back and talk to my kindergarden teacher.  Anyway, I took the drug test and filled out the background paperwork on a Monday (?). I don't remember. But I heard back from them 3 days later. I was official! That was only about two/ two and half weeks ago.   I now live in AZ and I am interning for US Airways for the summer. I've decided to call this summer my "Project Runway" summer cz you can catch me on a runway near you!! Haha Anyway the first week has been pretty good nothing eventful. I've completely slacked on my math class that I am still enrolled in. I need to focus. I haven't been able to work on any major projects yet but I was told that Monday I am getting a new project so that's exciting! I am actually using my college degree!

For all those that were worried haha living with Babs has turned out great! But seriously, Rachelle and I had a couple conversations about us living together before I got here. We can't help it though. We have to talk everything out. I told her my pet peeves, she told me her pet peeves. We shared what we expected from this experience and we're both being incredibly considerate to each other.  I can't complain!  We're exciting to be living together again because neither of us ever thought it would happen. It feels the same but at the same time it's so different cz we're so different. I even mentioned to her that I think our experience living together this time around might even be better than our first time around. And this goes for all my friends, we're still the same but with some adult tendencies.  We get up and go to work or school and come back and study and go to bed at decent hours and wake up early.  WHEN DID WE BECOME THESE PEOPLE???  Although flying every weekend sounds exciting I have to admit I fell asleep at  8:30 on FRIDAY NIGHT and woke up at a 6 on Saturday!! And I didn't even feel like a loser!! I felt well rested ahahahaha The rest of June will be pretty non eventful because Babs hs to study for her DAT and I need to finish my class. We can't even really start partying until July, and then Babs will be gone for a week and I'll just be working. I have had to adjust to my phone ringing less and receiving less text messages. Now that I live with the person I talked to the most anyway, my phone doesn't get as much love. It makes me feel slightly lonely, I won't lie.

She can only survive the DAT with diet coke

My first summer show in AZ

It was great

This is all I see of Babs these days

Perks! I'm excited!
The only other thing that is really different for me in AZ is the time change. I know it sounds crazy but I feel so FARRRRR from my family. A 3 hour time zone difference is crazy. By the time I get home from work and want to call everyone they are all going out, or heading to bed. I don't know how I thought I was going to survive living in CA by myself PLUS not being able to talk to my family. I've had a little bit of a tough time adjusting to that.  I know that it shouldn't be that big a deal cz it's only one extra hour but it feels like eternity to me. Don't judge :)

Lincoln Park Zoo

I love going to a zoo so of course we hit that up. There are two zoos in Chicago. We hit the Lincoln Park Zoo because it was free but honestly I'm not sure why anyone would ever go to the zoo where you have to pay. Lincoln Park was amazing! I'm not saying that because I love Chicago. The layout of the zoo was gorgeous! Every attraction had a house. For example, there was the lion house, and the primate house, the  africa house so you could see the animals really close. There were beautiful spots to eat and have picnics, a huge  pool of water.  San Diego zoo is the only zoo that I've been to that is better. Ahhhhh I am so torn between San Diego and Chicago I don't know what to do. Anyway... check it out!

They were kissing!

Otters are my favorite zoo attraction.

Polar Bears are my second favorite!
